Modernism

Something moves across the road without touching
Or alternatively the road is jumped over
Depending on your definition of bifurcation, what it means to map a vein in the earth
That which we do not know
Tall enough to pass over
Head in the clouds
What haunts us?
The unknown animal,
The blanked book, ink ran to black in the rain
Alternate definitions of historical termination points/the white cliffs of Dover/
the continental railroad’s last spike/and Kafka’s three sisters who died in the camps

The most popular forest on the island, for suicides and lovers alike
We assume
A leap of faith out of shadow
Where the trees grow
Crowding in
Close enough to speak
